Accessibility Features

A detailed guide to Danipa's accessibility features for users with visual, motor, hearing, or cognitive disabilities.

Overview

Danipa is committed to making financial services accessible to everyone. This guide covers the accessibility features built into the app and how to get the most out of them.

Visual Accessibility

Screen Reader Support

Danipa works with built-in screen readers on both platforms:

  • iOS: VoiceOver
  • Android: TalkBack

All interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields) have descriptive labels that screen readers can announce. Transaction amounts, balances, and statuses are all read aloud accurately.

How to Enable

iOS:

  1. Go to phone SettingsAccessibilityVoiceOver
  2. Toggle on
  3. Open the Danipa app — all elements are navigable via swipe gestures

Android:

Dynamic Text Size

Danipa respects your device's font size settings:

iOS: Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size Android: Settings → Display → Font Size

The app layout adjusts to accommodate larger text without cutting off content.

High Contrast Mode

For users with low vision:

  1. Go to Danipa SettingsAccessibilityHigh Contrast
  2. Toggle on
  3. Text becomes bolder, borders become more defined, and color contrast increases

Reduce Motion

If animations cause discomfort:

  1. Enable Reduce Motion in your device settings:
    • iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Reduce Motion
    • Android: Settings → Accessibility → Remove Animations
  2. Danipa automatically disables transitions, sliding effects, and animated elements

Color Blind Modes

Danipa supports alternative color schemes:

  1. Go to Danipa SettingsAccessibilityColor Mode
  2. Options:
    • Default — standard Danipa colors
    • Deuteranopia — adjusted for red-green color blindness
    • Protanopia — adjusted for red color blindness
    • Tritanopia — adjusted for blue-yellow color blindness

Transaction statuses use both color and icons/text, so they're always distinguishable regardless of color perception.

Motor Accessibility

Touch Target Sizes

All buttons and interactive elements meet minimum size requirements:

  • Buttons are at least 44×44 points (iOS) / 48×48 dp (Android)
  • Adequate spacing between elements to prevent accidental taps
  • Critical actions (like Send and Confirm) have extra-large touch targets

Switch Control

Danipa is compatible with switch control and alternative input devices:

  • iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Switch Control
  • Android: Settings → Accessibility → Switch Access

All app functions can be accessed sequentially using switches.

One-Handed Mode

The most common actions are accessible with one hand:

  • Bottom navigation tabs are within thumb reach
  • Quick action buttons on the home screen are centrally positioned
  • Confirmation buttons are at the bottom of the screen

Biometric Authentication

Use fingerprint or face recognition instead of typing PINs:

  1. Go to SettingsSecurityBiometric Login
  2. Enable for login and/or transaction authorization
  3. This eliminates the need to type passwords and PINs for users with motor difficulties

See Security & Settings for setup details.

Hearing Accessibility

Visual Indicators

All audio cues have visual equivalents:

AudioVisual Alternative
Transaction success soundGreen checkmark animation + status text
Notification soundBadge count on bell icon + banner notification
Error toneRed alert icon + error message text

Vibration Feedback

Haptic feedback provides non-auditory confirmation:

  • Light vibration — button press acknowledged
  • Success pattern — two short pulses for completed transactions
  • Error pattern — one long pulse for errors

Configure in SettingsAccessibilityHaptics.

Visual Notifications

Ensure you don't miss alerts:

  1. Enable LED flash for alerts on your device:
    • iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Audio/Visual → LED Flash for Alerts
    • Android: Settings → Accessibility → Flash Notification
  2. Danipa's push notifications always include text — no audio-only alerts

Cognitive Accessibility

Simple Mode

For users who prefer a simplified interface:

  1. Go to Danipa SettingsAccessibilitySimple Mode
  2. Toggle on
  3. Changes:
    • Larger, clearer text on all screens
    • Simplified navigation with fewer options visible at once
    • Step numbers on multi-step processes (1 of 3, 2 of 3, etc.)
    • Confirmation dialogs before all financial actions
    • Reduced information density on the home screen

Transaction Confirmations

Every financial action requires explicit confirmation:

  1. You see a summary of what will happen
  2. Amount, recipient, and fees are clearly displayed
  3. You must tap Confirm and then enter your PIN
  4. There is no way to accidentally send money

Clear Error Messages

When something goes wrong, Danipa shows:

  • What happened — in plain language (not error codes)
  • Why it happened — the likely cause
  • What to do — specific steps to resolve
  • Help button — direct link to support if needed

Reading Level

All in-app text is written at a clear, straightforward reading level:

  • Short sentences
  • Common words
  • No unnecessary jargon
  • Financial terms are explained when first used

USSD Accessibility

For users who cannot use a smartphone, USSD Access provides core Danipa features on any mobile phone:

  • Works on feature phones and basic phones
  • Text-based menus — no visual interface needed
  • Compatible with screen readers on feature phones that support them
  • Available in English and French
